OSCC is looking for an individual to join our pattern shop team. Prior employment in a woodworking field is preferred, however individuals with considerable hobby level woodworking experience are also encouraged to apply. If you have worked as a tool maker, furniture maker, cabinet maker, construction finisher (trim, crown molding, doors/windows,hanging cabinets), or an advanced framer this position would be a good fit. This role works indoors (heated in the winter), offers a regular schedule, overtime is needed semi-regularly (at times up to 55 hours per week).
The equipment required to perform our daily activities includes a band saw, table saw, disc sander, spindle sander, planer, jointer, router, and most typical handheld wood working & measuring tools. Occasionally we will work on a 3-axis mill and standard lathe. The ability to work from shop drawings and sketches is required, we would work closely with you to develop an understanding of our process. This position requires reading and measuring fractions, decimals, and angles. Our primary working materials are wood, but we will work with metal and plastic when needed. The job requires the use of glues/adhesives to assemble larger blocks of wood and to add leather fillets. We use tuf-fil (like automotive bondo) for patching and shaping curved features and filling damaged areas. For very complicated shapes we use pourable tooling plastics and urethanes. Most jobs are much smaller, but equipment sizes may weigh up to 500 lbs and be 50”x65”x 20”, lifting flipping and moving these safely with overhead hoists and pallet jacks is required.
If you are looking for a roll to expand your woodworking skills, enjoy some variety in your work from day to day, and can appreciate blending accuracy with an artistic touch we would like to hear from you.
