Maintenance Mechanic

Job Position: Maintenance Mechanic

DEPARTMENT: MAINTENANCE

Wages: Hourly | Classification: A/B/C | Shift: All | Reports to Supervisor / Manager

Duties, Responsibilities, and Skills

Classification Level A

  • Encompasses all duties, responsibilities, and skills of B & C levels
    Proficient knowledge of pneumatics, hydraulics, fabrication welding and basic electricity
  • Proficient in the use of tools and measuring devices common to the Maintenance Mechanic’s trade
  • Display good organizational skills, able to organize work projects and help direct project repairs
  • Demonstrate equipment functions and features to machine operators
  • Set up and operate machine tools to repair or fabricate machines, jibs, fixtures, and tools
  • The ability to troubleshoot, repair and maintain the all plant equipment
  • Demonstrates high proficiency in both production and quality
  • Able to independently train others within this position on all classifications listed below

Classification Level B

  • Encompasses all duties, responsibilities, and skills of C level
  • Observe and test the operation of machinery and equipment in or to diagnose malfunctions, using voltmeters and other testing devices
  • Operate newly repaired machinery and equipment to verify the adequacy of repairs
  • Study blueprints and manufacturers’ manuals to determine correct installation and operation of machinery
  • Order or requisition new parts and materials as necessary
  • Fabricate new parts, and assemble new equipment
  • Demonstrates proficiency in both production and quality
  • The ability to troubleshoot, repair and maintain the most plant equipment

Classification Level C

  • Working knowledge of pneumatics, hydraulics, fabrication welding and basic electricity
  • Able to identify or troubleshoot faulty mechanical operations and make necessary repairs
  • Knowledge in the use of tools and measuring devices common to the Maintenance Mechanic’s trade
  • Capable of performing preventative maintenance on all plant equipment
  • Experienced in the operating of mobile equipment such as a forklift or a man lift
  • Knowledge in all L.O.T.O. safety methods and procedures
  • Knowledge of the proper procedures to maintain maintenance machine tools and their use
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance to ensure that machines continue to run smoothly
  • Disassemble machinery and equipment to remove defective parts and make repairs
  • Repair and replace broken or malfunctioning components of machinery and equipment
  • Repair and maintain the operating condition of industrial production and processing machinery and equipment
  • Reassemble equipment after completion of inspections, testing, or repairs
  • Analyze test results, machine error messages, and information obtained from operators in order to diagnose equipment problems
  • Record repairs and maintenance performed
  • Record parts and materials used
  • Cut and weld metal to repair broken metal parts

Entry Level Qualifications and Requirements

  • Read blueprints
  • Basic math skills
  • 1+ years of experience in the field or related area
  • Possess basic hand tools
  • Ability to maintain a good working environment with management and fellow workers·      
  • Must have the ability to work at heights, and able to repetitively lift up to 100 lbs. (employees are encouraged to seek assistance when lifting over 50 lbs. and assistance is readily available.)
  • Work in or near extremes in temperatures and dusty environment
  • Able to follow instructions and complete assigned tasks in an unsupervised manner
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must have the ability to read, write, and speak English
  • Must have reliable attendance, willing to work flexible hours, & work well with others
  • Must perform other duties as assigned
