Chief Inspector

Job Position: Chief Inspector

DEPARTMENT: QUALITY

Wages: Exempt | Employment Status: Full-time | Reports to Quality Manager

Responsible for the Inspection Department and all related inspection processes. Ensure that customer requirements are being met while producing castings at the lowest cost.

Duties, Responsibilities, and Skills

  • Final Inspection: Supervise inspectors, develop inspection instructions and procedures, ensure adherence to instructions and procedures.
  • Rough Inspection: Supervise inspectors, develop inspection instructions and procedures, ensure adherence to instructions and procedures.
  • Non-Destructive Testing: Supervise process, ensure adherence to instructions and procedures.
  • Dimensional Inspection: Supervise process, document and disseminate findings.
  • Gage Calibration: Full responsibility with hourly employee assistance.
  • Conduct Shipping & Dock Audits: Perform audits or delegate, ensure compliance, document findings
  • Material Review Board: Coordinate to ensure that decisions regarding nonconforming material are documented, implemented, and re-inspected where required.
  • Return Goods (AQR’s): With operations, ensure timely disposition of returned goods, documentation and reporting of findings
  • Corrective Actions: Assist company in processing and responding to CAR’s related to quality issues
  • Preventive Actions: Assist operations in root cause problem solving based on inspection findings
  • Production Part Approval Process, PPAP: Participation in a process, as required.
  • Perform any and all other job-related tasks as assigned
  • Interpret engineering drawings, schematic diagrams or formulas
  • Assist in review of production purchase orders, change orders, blueprints, specifications for compliance with company and customer requirements
  • Initiate and follow-up on routing and operations procedure changes per customer purchase orders, blueprints and specification changes
  • Responsible for completeness of certifications prior to shipment

Qualifications and Requirements

  • High school diploma is required, Associate Degree in a related field preferred. Must have a minimum of two (2) years of related experience.
  • Must be detail-oriented and able to work accurately while meeting assigned deadlines.
  • Must be willing to flex work hours based on operational demand.
  • Must possess strong verbal skills and have a highly developed sense of urgency.
  • Must have the ability to interact with internal and external contacts in a positive and professional manner.
  • Microsoft Word and Excel experience, and general computer knowledge and organizational skills.
  • Must be able to read and write in English and possess good writing skills
  • Must have reliable attendance, willing to work flexible hours, & work well with others
  • Must perform other duties as assigned
